Clean Gutters Are the Simplest Thing You Can Do to Protect Your Home
In Central New York, full gutters are a primary driver of ice dams, fascia rot, and foundation seepage. Patriot Home Solutions clears, flushes, inspects, and reports so your gutters are ready for whatever Mother Nature brings.

How Regular Gutter Cleaning Can Save You Money
Gutter cleaning is the most straightforward home maintenance task most Central NY homeowners consistently skip, until the first winter after a missed cleaning makes it impossible to ignore. Clogged gutters form ice dams, ice dams drive water under shingles, that water damages ceilings, walls, insulation, and structural framing, and you end up with a hefty roof replacement bill. It’s time to schedule your cleaning when:
Leaves and debris are visible in the gutter channel
Water overflows during or after rain
Ice forms in or along the gutters in the winter
It’s been more than a year since the last cleaning
how it works
Three Simple Steps to Clean Gutters
01
Clear & Remove All Debris
We remove all debris from gutter channels by hand, including leaves, seed pods, shingle granules, moss, and compacted material that can’t be flushed away. We bag and remove it from the property so it doesn’t end up back in your yard or garden beds.
We work the full length of every gutter run, not just the visibly clogged sections. Partial cleanings leave debris that consolidates and re-clogs within weeks, especially in autumn when leaves are actively falling.
02
Flush & Confirm Flow
Once debris is cleared, we flush the entire system with water, from each gutter run through to the downspout outlets. This confirms that flow is unobstructed end to end and that any blockages deep in the downspout are cleared, not just displaced.
Flushing also reveals pitch problems, which are sections where water pools instead of flowing toward the downspout, that hand-clearing alone would miss. Any pitch issues are noted in the condition report.
03
Inspect & Final Report
With the gutters clean and flushed, we conduct a full visual inspection of the system to check hanger condition and spacing, joint and seam integrity, fascia condition behind the gutter, and whether downspouts are discharging water at a safe distance from the foundation.
You receive a written condition report documenting what we found. If any repairs are needed, we present them clearly so you can decide whether to address them now or schedule them separately.

How often should I get my gutters cleaned?
Most Central New York homes can benefit from two cleanings per year: one in late spring, after pollen and seed pods have fallen, and another in late fall, after the leaves have dropped but before the first hard freeze. Homes with heavy overhanging trees, particularly maples and oaks, may benefit from a third cleaning in mid-fall. Fall cleaning is the most important, as gutters full of debris heading into winter are a primary contributor to ice dam formation and gutter damage.
What does your gutter cleaning service include?
Every cleaning includes full debris removal from all gutter channels, a complete system flush to confirm flow from inlet to downspout outlet, a visual inspection of hanger condition, joint seals, fascia, and pitch, and a written condition report. If we find anything that needs repair, we document it clearly and present options, but we’ll never perform additional work without your approval first.
Can clogged gutters cause ice dams in the winter?
Yes! Debris-filled gutters prevent drainage during melt cycles, causing water to pool and freeze in place. This frozen dam blocks subsequent meltwater, which then backs up under the shingles and can cause damage to interior ceilings and walls. Thoroughly cleaning gutters in late fall before freeze season is one of the most effective and affordable steps you can take to reduce the risk of ice dams.
How much damage can clogged gutters cause to my home?
Failing gutters often cause fascia and soffit to rot from water running behind the gutter; foundation saturation leading to basement seepage and long-term structural movement; ice dam formation from standing water freezing in the gutter, and landscape erosion or damage from uncontrolled overflow. Fixing gutter issues before they become big problems is one of the most cost-effective ways to protect your home.
Do you offer recurring seasonal maintenance plans?
Absolutely. We work with homeowners who want to set a seasonal schedule and not have to remember to call. We manage the timing, notify you before each visit, and maintain a condition history for your home from season to season. Recurring customers also receive scheduling priority during the fall window, which is important because our fall slots fill quickly as Central New York homeowners all realize at the same time that winter is coming.
