What does a home energy audit include?
A residential energy audit from Patriot includes a full walk-through inspection of your home, including the attic, basement, crawlspace, walls, windows, doors, and mechanical systems. We review your heating and cooling equipment, insulation levels, and recent utility bills to build a complete picture of where your energy is going. You receive a written report with recommended improvements, and a summary of rebates and tax credits you may qualify for.
What NY State programs help pay for home energy improvements?
New York offers several programs for residential energy efficiency. EmPower NY provides free and reduced cost upgrades for income-qualified homeowners. NYSERDA’s Comfort Home program offers rebates of up to $4,000 for whole-home improvements completed by participating contractors. National Grid customers may also qualify for utility rebates on specific equipment and improvements. Patriot participates in these programs and handles all documentation and rebate submissions for you.
What is blower door testing, and why does it matter?
Blower door testing uses a calibrated fan mounted in your front door to depressurize your home, then measures how quickly air infiltrates from outside. The result is an ACH50 number, which is a precise measurement of your home’s air tightness. This tells us how leaky your home is, where the leaks are concentrated, and how much potential exists for improvement. For most older Central NY homes, air leakage is the single biggest driver of heating costs, and one of the most cost-effective problems to fix.
How long does a home energy audit take?
A thorough residential energy audit typically takes one to two hours, depending on the size of your home. You don’t need to vacate; we work through the house systematically while you go about your day. We’ll walk you through our findings at the end of the visit and follow up with a written report within a few business days.
